This is the last week to see the entries created for the Ezra Jack Keats Baltimore Bookmaking Competition on display in the Fiction and Teen Department of the Central Library at the Enoch Pratt Library, located at 400 Cathedral St, Baltimore, MD 21201! Omar Jimenez of WBAL 11 news interviewed the elementary school winners of the EJK Baltimore Bookmaking Competition Saturday.  Liahna Rebello and Kenzi Merchant, fourth-graders at Monarch Academy in Baltimore City, shared their experience collaborating on Creepy Creatures, also present were their teacher, Ms. Erica Foote, along with parents and family.

2016 Baltimore Bookmaking Winners

announce Ezra Jack Keats Baltimore Bookmaking Competition Winners 

We are proud to announce the winners of the first annual Baltimore Bookmaking Competition sponsored by The Ezra Jack Keats Foundation is partnering with Enoch Pratt Library, The Reginald F. Lewis Museum, Jump In Studio, Inc. and Baltimore City Public Schools. We have named one winner and one runner up in each division. 

Elementary School city-winner is:  The Invasion of the Creatures  by Liahna Rebello and Kenzi Merchant  Monarch Academy  4th grade	Runner-up is:  Stinky Feet by Lily Ureta and Donniya Burgess  Arlington Elementary  5th grade
Middle School city-wide winner is:  Kyonom  by Marc Miango  Garret Heights Elementary School  8th grade	Runner up is:  The Mysteries of the Missing Letters by Majai Moulden  Arlington Elementary/Middle  8th grade
High School city-wide winner is:  Trust Kills  byTrey Robinson Jr.  Pa tterson High School  11th grade	Runner-up:  A True Knight’s Day by Megan Thomspon  Baltimore Design School  10th grade

The award ceremony will be held at The Reginald F. Lewis Museum on May 14, 2016, during its annual African American Children’s Book Festival. City-wide winners will receive a cash prize of $500. Supervising teachers of this year’s winners and runners up will receive a gift certificate from Penguin Random House, good for the purchase of 25 books from their catalog. School-wide winning entries will be on display at The Enoch Pratt Library in May, 2016 (dates to be announced).

Extended Deadline

Happy New Year book makers! The weather outside is frightful so we have decided to extend the bookmaking competition deadline for one week. Please get your entries in no later than FEBRUARY 1st. Hopefully we will have dug out form any blizzard by then!

Educator Bookmaking Workshop

We hope everyone is excited about this year's bookmaking competition! On October 3rd, Jonathan Bean will join us at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum to discuss his work. Books will be available to purchase. Please RSVP by Sept. 25th and join us for a day of art and bookmaking!
